Energy Research Project
For the next two weeks (this week and the week after spring break), you guys will work on this semester's research project. You and one other person will investigate one of the following sources of energy:
Biomass
Solar Energy
Wind Energy
Geothermal Energy
Hydroelectric Energy
Tidal Energy
Ocean Wave Energy
Nuclear Power
Fossil Fuels
Hydrogen Energy
Fuel Cells
This will be graded under Criterion D. Paper Format: 1 inch margins, Times New Roman 12, 1.5 spacing. APA Style for citations and bibliography.
Outline your paper according to the following:
I. Introduction. Define and discuss energy in general terms. Make sure you address the need for renewable energy sources. End your intro with a statement about which energy topic your paper will focus on. This is your thesis statement.
II. Body paragraph 1. Introduce your topic. Provide examples of where it is used and how. If it is not currently being used, what are the theories behind how it could be used?
III. Body paragraph 2. Discuss the pros and cons of your energy topic. Why it would make a good source and what are the problems in using it as a source.
IV. Conclusion. Summarize the paper. What did you learn? Evaluate the research that you have examined. Do you consider it valuable or not? Explain in your own words. Do you believe your energy is a viable alternative? Yes or no? Back up your opinion with facts and include citations.
Always include citations in your papers. Use the Purdue Online Writing Lab to help you with this. Don't forget to include a bibliography at the end.
Your presentation has two components: a 2-page essay and a class presentation. Use the Research Paper & Presentation Rubrics from the previous research project. Presentations will take place during the week of _______, 2020. A rough draft of the essay is due _________. Final drafts are due _______________.
